Yle TV1(Yleisradio - Finnish Broadcasting Company TV1;Finnish:Yle TV Yksi,Swedish:Yle TV Ett) is aFinnishtelevision channel owned and operated by Finnish public broadcasterYle.It is the second oldest (afterTES-TV) and the oldest existing television channel inFinland.More than 70% of the channel's programs are documentaries, news, or educational programmes. Its name is commonly referred to asYkkönen;it derives from Yle's ownership of channels Spots 1 and 2 by default in Finland; the other, spot 2 channel, isYle TV2.

History

The channel started test transmissions on 13 August 1957, and began regular broadcasts on 1 January 1958 asSuomen Televisioand the second Finnish TV channel at the time. When Yleisradio took over the Tampere-based[1]Tamvisioin 1964, Suomen Televisio was renamedTV-ohjelma 1and Tamvisio becameTV-ohjelma 2,and when they started broadcasting in colour in the 1970s, they were rebranded again, as TV1 andTV2.
