Yuliya Sergeyevna Pechonkina,néeNosova(Russian:Юлия Серге́евна Печёнкина,born 21 April 1978 inKrasnoyarsk) is a Russian former athlete who specialized in the400 metres hurdlesand4 × 400 metres relay.She was previously married to former sprinterEvgeny Pechonkin.[1]
She held theworld recordin 400 m hurdles (52.34 seconds achieved on 8 August 2003 in Tula) for almost 16 years until it was broken byDalilah Muhammadon 28 July 2019 and the rarely contested4 × 200 metres relayindoor (1:32.41 withYekaterina Kondratyeva,Irina KhabarovaandYuliya Gushchina).
She had a recurring problem withsinusitis,an illness which caused her to miss both the2008 Beijing Olympicsand the2009 World ChampionshipsinBerlin.[2]Given her ill health, she decided to retire from athletics soon after the World Championships and instead took a job in thebankingsector.[3]
She has an annual meet held inYerinonamed after her, under the title Yuliya Pechonkina Prizes.[4]
