Yvan Blot(29 June 1948 – 10 October 2018) was a French conservative politician. A founding member of theGRECE,he was also the co-creator and president of theClub de l'Horloge.[1]

Biography

Born on 29 June 1948 inSaint-Mandé,Yvan Blot was the son of Camille Blot and Adela Sophia Brys. He studied inLycée Henri IVand graduated fromSciences Poand earned a doctorate in economics at the same university in 2004.[2][3][4]

Blot founded in the Cercle Pareto, a Sciences Po student organization linked to theNouvelle Droite,and was soon joined byJean-Yves Le Gallou,Daniel GarrigueandGuillaume Faye.Between 1971 and 1974, he wrote under the pen name "Michel Norey" racialist essays on "biological realism".[5]Dismissing the anti-Christian stance and long-term strategiesAlain de Benoistand hisGRECE,he co-founded in July 1974 theClub de l'Horloge.[6][5]

A formerGaullistparliamentarian (forRally for the Republic), Blot also served as a leading civil servant under bothInterior MinisterMichel PoniatowskiandAlain Devaquet.[7]He joined theFront Nationalin 1989 and was elected to theEuropean Parliamentin the1989 election.[8]

A prominentEurosceptic,Blot played a leading role in establishing a committee to support theBruges Groupin France.[9]He also played a leading role in FN policy making, joining other Club de l'Horloge alumni such asBruno Mégret,Henry de LesquenandJean-Yves Le Gallouin driving the party away fromcorporatismand towardsneo-liberaleconomics.[10]He wrote forNation Europamagazine. In the early 2000s, he became a member of theUMP.[4]He was the founder of the association "Agir pour la démocratie directe" in Paris. The mission statement of this association is to change the French constitution on the Swiss model.[11]

Blot retired from the French administration in July 2013 and became professor in direct democracy at theUniversity of Nice,at theCatholic University of Rennesand in the University of Velikie Novgorod in Russia.[citation needed]He was a member of theFrench Catholic Academy[12]and a consultant for the radio station "Voice of Russia" in Paris.[13]He worked for the think tank Idexia withCharles BeigbederandGuillaume Peltier,a group favouring the return of the former presidentNicolas Sarkozyto power.[citation needed]

Blot was author of numerous essays in politics and philosophy, such asL'oligarchie au pouvoirandLa démocratie directe: une chance pour la France,Les faux prophètesandNous les enfants d'Athéna.[citation needed]his last books wereL'homme défiguré(2015) andLa Russie de Poutine(2015).
