Zhao Shu-zhen(Chinese:Triệu thục trân;born c. 1944)[1]is a Chinese film, stage and television actress. She is best known internationally for her portrayal of the grandmother (Nai Nai nãi nãiNǎinai,which means paternal grandmother in Mandarin) inLulu Wang's filmThe Farewell(2019), which earned her many accolades including theIndependent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Female.[2]

Zhao has appeared in over 100 plays for theHarbin Grand Theatre.[3]
Zhao's role as Nai Nai inThe Farewellhas received critical acclaim and numerous awards.[4][5]For the role, she won Best Supporting Actress from theSan Diego Film Critics Society Awards 2019,theHouston Film Critics Society Awards 2019,and the 2019 Chicago Indie Critics Awards[6]and a 2020Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Female.[7]
