Alexander Glantz(born January 23, 1995), known professionally asAlexander 23,is an American singer-songwriter and record producer. Since releasing his first string of singles and EP in 2019, he has worked with artists such asOlivia Rodrigo,John Mayer,Selena Gomez,Tate McRae,Charlie Puth,Noah Kahan,Laufey,Role Model,Reneé Rapp,Omar Apollo,Jeremy Zucker,Blu DeTiger,Kenny Beats,David Kushner,Addison Rae,GlaiveandMegan Thee Stallion,and has accumulated over a billion streams of his own music.[1][2]
Early life
[edit]Glantz was raised inDeerfield, Illinois,[3]a suburb ofChicago, Illinois.At the age of 8, Glantz saw his father playing guitar which inspired him to learn as well.[4][3]As a teenager, he joined a band where he also learned how to play bass, piano, and drums.[5]He has two siblings: a younger brother, Brady, and a younger sister, Olivia.[4]
After high school, Glantz went to theUniversity of Pennsylvaniafor engineering, but dropped out a year later to pursue music more seriously.[4][6]Glantz then moved toLos Angelesto begin songwriting and producing for others and soon after he decided to write songs for himself and to pursue a career as an artist.[7]
Career
[edit]Alexander signed toInterscopein 2019.[8]He released his first single "Dirty AF1s" in 2019 which made it to Spotify's New Music Friday playlist and was recognized as Apple Music's "Bop of the Week".[9]After releasing five subsequent singles, his first EPI'm Sorry I Love Youwas released by Interscope in October 2019.[10]
Since the release of his first EP, Alexander has released a number of singles as well as collaborations with artists such asSelena Gomez,Jeremy Zucker,Chelsea Cutler,andmxmtoon.He has also written and produced songs for a number of other artists such asRole Model,Olivia Rodrigo,Tate McRaeandLouis The Child.
He made his first live debut opening forAlec Benjaminon his Outrunning Karma Tour in 2019[11]and has since opened for artists such as mxmtoon,[12]Chelsea Cutler,[13]andOmar Apollo.[9]Alexander was set to open forLauvduring his How I'm Feeling Tour in August 2020, however, due to theCOVID-19 pandemicthese tour dates were cancelled.[14]Alexander instantly sold out his first two headline shows in Los Angeles in February 2020.[15]
When describing his decision to go by Alexander 23, Alexander said, "I was born on the 23rd, I grew up in Chicago and saw Michael Jordan as a huge figure in basketball and was obsessed with him, and he wore number 23. Plus, I was 23 when I started writing these songs. I knew that I wanted to go by my real first name and I just thought I'd spice it up by adding number 23 at the end."[6]
Alexander is also a member of the ten-member band Top Bunk.[16]
His second EP,Oh No, Not Again!was released on February 19, 2021, on Interscope Records.[17]
Alexander co-produced "Good 4 U"byOlivia RodrigowithDan Nigro[18]which was released on May 14, 2021, throughGeffenandInterscopeand debuted atop theBillboardHot 100.
Alexander was nominated forAlbum of the Yearat the 2022Grammy Awardsfor his production work onSourbyOlivia Rodrigo.[2]
In the spring of 2022, Alexander joinedJohn Mayeras the opening act on hisSob Rocktour.[19]
Alexander released his debut album "Aftershock" in July 2022 which featured the lead single "Hate Me If It Helps" which was co-written byOlivia Rodrigo,"The Hardest Part" which featured background vocals fromChappell Roanand "RIP You and Me" which includes an outro piano solo fromCharlie Puth.[20]
Alexander served as the executive producer forReneé Rapp's debut albumSnow Angelwhich was released in August 2023.
