Edelstal(Hungarian:Nemesvölgy) is a township in the district ofNeusiedl am See,in theAustrianstate ofBurgenland.
History
[edit]There was a 9th-centuryAvarsettlement on its borders, it is near the Roman fortressCarnuntum.
The town was destroyed in 1529 and 1683 by theTurks.
Before theTreaty of Trianonit was in theRajkadistrict (Hungarian: Jaras) ofMosoncounty (comitatus) in theKingdom of Hungary.

[edit]It has a Roman Catholic church dating from 1740 dedicated toSaint Stephen.
Economy
[edit]Themineral waterfrom the nearbyRömerquellesprings has been bottled since 1890.
Politics
[edit]The township's mayor isAnton Moritzof theSozialdemokratische Partei Österreichs(SPÖ), the vice-mayor isGerald Handigof theÖsterreichische Volkspartei(ÖVP) and the chief civil servant isUlrike Ingrid Handig.
In the local council of thirteen seats, the SPÖ holds seven seats, the ÖVP five, and theFreiheitliche Partei Österreichs(FPÖ) one.
