European route E 97is an A-classEuropean RouteinUkraine,Russia,Georgia,andTurkey.The highway runs for 1,360 kilometres (850 mi) in total.[1]It connects the North Black Sea region with the South Black Sea region along the eastern shores of the sea.

Route description

The E97 starts in the Ukrainian city ofKhersonand proceeds to the Georgian city ofPoti,intersected by a number of European routes. From Khershon it proceeds alongM17.The road soon passes into the territory ofCrimea(annexed by Russia), where it runs fromDzhankoy–Feodosiya–Kerch,and is then interrupted by theStrait of Kerch.The road used the now discontinuedKerch Strait ferry linebetweenPort Krym,UkraineandPort Kavkaz,Russia,but in 2018 theCrimean Bridgeopened connectingCrimeaandRussiaby road (A290).

In Russia, the E97 heads toNovorossiysk,along theM4toDzhubgaand finally via theM27motorway to resort city ofSochi,site of the2014 Winter Olympics.Further south, the route proceeds through Georgia, passing throughSukhumi,PotiandBatumibefore reaching theTurkishborder.From there, it extends toTrabzon,GümüşhaneandAşkale,where the E97 terminates. Between Trabzon and Poti, the E97 isconcurrentwith the easternmost segment of theEuropean route E70.[1]
