GABAergic

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Inmolecular biologyand physiology, something isGABAergicorGABAnergicif it pertains to or affects the neurotransmittergamma-aminobutyric acid(GABA). For example, asynapseis GABAergic if it uses GABA as itsneurotransmitter, and a GABAergicneuronproduces GABA. A substance is GABAergic if it produces its effects via interactions with theGABA system, such as by stimulating orblockingneurotransmission.

A GABAergic or GABAnergic agent is any chemical that modifies the effects of GABA in the body or brain. Some different classes of GABAergic drugs includeagonists, antagonists, modulators, reuptake inhibitors and enzymes.[1]
