Jacques Monet,SJFRSC(January 26, 1930 – May 14, 2024) was aCanadianhistorian andCatholicpriest. He was a member of theSociety of Jesus.

Biography

Born inSaint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec,Monet joined theSociety of Jesusin 1949 and was ordained in 1966.[1]He studied history atUniversité Lavaland theUniversity of Toronto,where he received a PhD in history.[2]

Monet joined the department of history of theUniversity of Ottawain 1969 and was the chairman of the department from 1972 to 1976. He left in 1980 to joinRegis College, Toronto.He was president of theCanadian Historical Associationfrom 1975 to 1976.[2]He was also rector of theUniversity of Sudbury.

In 2012, Monet was appointed to theAdvisory Committee on Vice-Regal AppointmentsbyStephen Harper.

Monet died inPickering, Ontario,on May 14, 2024, at the age of 94.[3]
