Kalembice(German:Kalembitz) is a district ofCieszyn,Silesian Voivodeship,Poland. It was a separate municipality, but became administratively a part of Cieszyn in 1973.

The name is ofpatronymicorigins derived from personal nameKalemba(locallyalso denotinga fat, lazy spinster).[1]

History

The village was first mentioned in a Latin document ofDiocese of WrocławcalledLiber fundationis episcopatus Vratislaviensisfrom around 1305 asitem inChalambycisex mansi.[2][3][4]It meant that the village was supposed to pay atithefrom 6smaller lans.The creation of the village was a part of a larger settlement campaign taking place in the late 13th century on the territory of what will be later known asUpper Silesia.

Politically the village belonged initially to theDuchy of Teschen,formed in 1290 in the process offeudal fragmentation of Polandand was ruled by a local branch ofPiast dynasty.In 1327 the duchy became afeeof theKingdom of Bohemia,which after 1526 became part of theHabsburg monarchy.

The village was bought from Marie Gräfin Larisch byTeschener Kammerin 1792 for 16,500florins.[5]

AfterRevolutions of 1848 in the Austrian Empirea modernmunicipal divisionwas introduced in the re-establishedAustrian Silesia.The village became a part of thePastwiskamunicipality.

AfterWorld War I,fall ofAustria-Hungary,Polish–Czechoslovak Warand the division ofCieszyn Silesiain 1920, it became a part ofPoland.It was thenannexedbyNazi Germanyat the beginning ofWorld War II.After the war it was restored toPoland.
