Laura Fraser(born 24 July 1975)[1]is a Scottish actress. She has played Door in theurban fantasyseriesNeverwhere,Kate in the filmA Knight's Tale,Cat MacKenzie in theBBC Threedrama seriesLip ServiceandLydia Rodarte-Quaylein theAMCcrime dramaseriesBreaking Badand its spin-offBetter Call Saul.
Early life
[edit]Fraser was born inGlasgow, Scotland.She is the daughter of Rose Fraser, a college lecturer and nurse, and Alister Fraser, a screenwriter and businessman.[citation needed]She attendedHillhead High Schooland is a former member of theScottish Youth Theatre.She trained at theRoyal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama(now the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland).[2]
Career
[edit]Fraser's first big break was playing Door in theBBC's dark fantasy seriesNeverwherein 1996. She starred in the BBC filmThe Tribe(1998), and played Lavinia inTitus(1999) as well as Justine inVirtual Sexuality(1999) and Candice inKevin & Perry Go Large(2000). She also appeared in the filmsA Knight's Tale(2001) andVanilla Sky(2001). She starred in the BBCperiod dramaserialsHe Knew He Was Right(2004),Casanova(2005), andReichenbach Falls(2007). She starred in the British comedy filmNina's Heavenly Delights(2006). She played Claire Bellington in theITVseriesTalk to Me(2007).
Fraser starred as thetitle characterinFlorence Nightingale,broadcast onBBC Onein June 2008. From 2010 to 2012, she starred as Cat in theBBC ThreeseriesLip Service.In 2010, it was announced that she would portrayJessica Brodyin the pilot for theShowtimepolitical thrillerseriesHomeland.[3]She was replaced on the show byMorena Baccarin.[4]From 2012 to 2013, she portrayedLydia Rodarte-Quaylein thefinal seasonof theAMCcrime dramaseriesBreaking Bad.[5]She has made occasional appearances as the same character in the prequelBetter Call Saul.
She played Eve Stone in the 2016 television seriesThe Missing.She played DI Juliet Wallace in the 2016 BBC miniseriesOne of Us.In 2017, Fraser starred as DS Annie Redford in the six-partITVdramaThe Loch.[6]In November 2019, the BBC announced her as a guest star for the twelfth series ofDoctor Who.[citation needed]She appeared as 'Kane' in the third episode "Orphan 55"in January 2020.
Personal life
[edit]She married Irish-born American actorKarl Gearyin 2003. They have one daughter and live inGlasgow,Scotland.[7]Fraser does not drink alcohol.[8]
