"Notuner Gan"(Bengali:নতুনের গান[ˈnotuneɾgan];"The Youth Song" ), more popularly known by its incipit as "Chol Chol Chol",[a]is the nationalmarch(Bengali:রণ-সঙ্গীত) ofBangladesh,[1][2]whose lyrics and tune were written by national poetKazi Nazrul Islamin 1928. It was first published in the newspaperShikha(শিখাFlame) with the titleNotuner Gaan(নতুনের গানThe Song of Youth) and was later included in Nazrul's bookShondha(সন্ধ্যাThe Evening). TheBangladeshi governmentadopted this song as the national marching song of Bangladesh on 13 January 1972 in its first meeting after thecountry's independence.[2]The first lines of the song are played at most military ceremonies or functions.The Daily Starhas referred to it asthenational military song.[3]It was proposed for thenational anthemof Bangladesh in 1975.[4]
