Novala Takemoto(Nhạc bổn dã ばら,Takemoto Nobara)is the professional name ofToshiaki Takemoto(Nhạc bổn nhẫm minh,Takemoto Toshiaki),a Japanese author, and fashion designer.[1]

Biography

Takemoto was born inUji,south ofKyoto.As a child, he was shy and preferreddrawingandreading(two of his favorite authors wereOsamu DazaiandYasunari Kawabata) to spending time with others, and was a big fan of theanimeseriesCandy Candy,in the discovery of which he was "happy to finally find what [he] liked".[2]He was also sometimes beaten by his father, which he says persuaded him to follow his own path in life.[3]After dropping out ofOsaka University of Artsin 1987,[4]he participated in a variety of artistic, musical and theatrical activities. From 1992 to 1997, he made his literary debut contributing serial essays toHanagata Bunka Tsūshin( hoa hình văn hóa thông tín ), aKansaifree arts newspaper. These essays were collected and published in book format in 1998 asSoleilnuit: For Becoming a Proper Young Lady,and received wide recognition. These essays also increased the popularity of theJapanesetermotome,referring to a young lady or youngmaiden.Shogakukanpublished his debut novelMissin'in 2000. He was nominated for theYukio Mishima Literary Awardtwice, for his novelsEmily(in 2003) andLolita(in 2004).[2]

Takemoto is best known forShimotsuma Monogatari,titledKamikaze Girlsin English. The series was adapted to amangaand afilmwhich was directed byTetsuya Nakashima.Another of his novels,Twins: A Variety Store Named "The End of the World",was also adapted for film in 2001 by Kiseki Hamada.[5]

Takemoto was arrested in September 2007 for violating theCannabis Control Lawand was later convicted of the crime.[6][7]He was arrested again in 2015 after he was found to have two grams of contraband that are banned under the Narcotics Control Law in his possession.[8]
