Peng Peiyun(Chinese:Bành bội vân;born December 1929) is a Chinese politician.[1]

Biography

Peng was born inLiuyang,Hunan,in December 1929. She was admitted to theNational Southwestern Associated Universityat 15. She graduated fromQinghua Universityand joined theChinese Communist Party(CCP) in 1946. She held several positions in the CCP branches in public education institutions. She was assigned to the deputy secretary of the CCP committee inBeijing Universitybefore she was denounced byNie Yuanzi,demoted and sent to the countryside in theCultural Revolution.[2][3]

Peng was rehabilitated near the end of the Cultural Revolution. She entered theMinistry of Educationand became the vice minister before she was assigned the Minister of theNational Family Planning Commission.In 1993 she became a member of theState Council.In 1998, she was elected the Vice Chairperson of theStanding Committee of the National People's Congressand the Chairwoman of theAll-China Women's Federation.[4]In 1999, she was elected the Chairperson of theRed Cross Society of China.She was reelected to the same position in 2004.

Peng was elected as a delegate to the 12th and 13thCCP National Congressesand to the14thand15thCCP Central Committees.

Personal life

Peng marriedWang Hanbin,a Chinese politician who was also elected the Vice Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and CCP Central Committee. The couple have four children.
