ThePittsburgh City Councilserves as the legislative body in theCity of Pittsburgh.It consists of nine members.[2]City council members are chosen by plurality elections in each of nine districts. The city operates under amayor-councilsystem of local governance.

Council members shall serve for a term of four years from the first Monday of January following their election. Terms of council members shall be staggered so that four are elected at the same time as the mayor.
