Steve Albert(bornStephen Aufrichtigon April 26, 1952, inBrooklyn, New York) is an American formersportscaster.He has served as a play-by-play announcer for theNew Jersey Nets,New Orleans Hornets,Golden State Warriors,New York Mets,andPhoenix Sunsas well as the Major Indoor Soccer League'sNew York Arrows.[1][2]Albert ended his career as the television play-by-play announcer for thePhoenix Suns.[3]He retired following the Suns' 2016-2017 season.

He also served as a broadcaster for theNew York Islanders,New York Rangers,Cleveland Crusaders[4]andNew York Jets,and as the sports anchor atWCBS-TV,WNBC-TVandWWOR-TVand did morning sports reports onWABC (AM).He covered major bo xing fights onShowtime Championship Bo xingfor 17 years, including the infamous "Bite Fight"betweenMike TysonandEvander Holyfieldin 1997. He was inducted in the International Bo xing Hall of Fame[5] as a member of the Class of 2018.

Steve was the play-by-play announcer for the "MTV Rock N' Jock"[6]celebrity sports specials, partnered with comedian & game show host,Ken Ober,during the 1990s.

He has also been a co-host on the short-lived syndicated game showThe Grudge Matchalongside future Minnesota governorJesse Ventura.He was also the play-by-play announcer forBattle Dome.[7]

Albert is the younger brother of broadcastersMarv AlbertandAl Albert.He is the uncle of currentNFL on FoxandNHL on TNTannouncerKenny Albert.
