Taliesin Jaffe(/ˈtælɪsənˈdʒæfi/) is an American voice actor, voice director and screenwriter. He has worked on English-dubbingroles for anime and video games. He is a cast member onCritical Role,a web series in which he playsDungeons & Dragonswith other voice actors. Jaffe has also frequently voicedthe Flashin various video games.
Personal life
[edit]Jaffe was born in Los Angeles[citation needed]He is the son of actressNina Axelrodand film producerRobert Jaffe.[1]His maternal grandfather was screenwriterGeorge Axelrod,while his paternal grandfather was film producerHerb Jaffe.He has two brothers and a sister.[2]Jaffe came out asbisexualin 2017.[3]
Career

[edit]Jaffe began his career as a child actor, appearing in films such asMr. Momand2010: The Year We Make Contact,and had membership of theScreen Actor's Guildat the age of seven months.[4]On television, he had guest appearances on such series asThe Facts of LifeandAmazing Stories.In 1985, Jaffe was a regular on the short-lived ABC sitcomHail to the Chiefas Willy Mansfield, son of the fictional first female president of the United States, who was played byPatty Duke.From 1987 to 1989, Jaffe played Kenny Granger onShe's the Sheriff,co-starring withSuzanne Somers.In a 2018 interview, Jaffe discussed how he was offered the role of Brian Tanner onALFbut indicated that his parents turned it down.[5]: 00:24:25 After several years, Jaffe did not enjoy being a child actor. After a bad audition, his father told him he could either put in more effort for more roles or quit acting, andJaffe—havingnot previously realized that quitting was anoption—immediatelychose to quit.[6]
Jaffe was a member of an AV club at school and he and his friends would create their own English dubs of anime using the club's equipment. After high school, Jaffe made a demo tape using his dubbing work, which led to his career in anime dubbing and voice direction.[4][5]
Critical Role Productions
[edit]In theactual playweb seriesCritical Role,[5]he played Percival "Percy" Fredrickstein von Musel Klossowski de Rolo III inCampaign One,Mollymauk Tealeaf, Caduceus Clay and Kingsley Tealeaf inCampaign Two,and Ashton Greymoore inCampaign Three.[7][8]Critical Rolewas both the Webby Winner and the People's Voice Winner in the "Games (Video Series & Channels)" category at the 2019Webby Awards;[9]the show was also both a Finalist and the Audience Honor Winner in the "Games" category at the 2019Shorty Awards.[10]The show was originally broadcast on theGeek & Sundrynetwork until early 2019, when the cast and crew left to set up their own production company,Critical Role Productions.[11][12][13][14]Soon after, they aimed to raise $750,000 onKickstarterto create an animated series of their first campaign, but ended up raising over $11 million.[15][16]In November 2019,Amazon Prime Videoacquired the streaming rights to the animated seriesThe Legend of Vox Machina;Jaffe reprised his role as Percy.[17][18]
In May 2023,Darrington Pressimprint announced the upcomingCandela Obscuracampaign setting co-created by Jaffe and Chris Lockey for theIlluminated Worldstabletop role-playing game system. TheCandela Obscura Quickstart Guidewas released on May 25 with theCandela Obscura Core Rulebookscheduled for release later in 2023. The release of theQuickstart Guidecorresponds with the release of the new monthly horror–themed actual play web series titledCandela Obscuracreated by Critical Role Productions; Jaffe serves as the show's Lightkeeper who provides the characters their mission each episode.[19][20][21]
