Timothy Mark Burgess(born August 11, 1956) is aseniorUnited States district judgeof theUnited States District Court for the District of Alaska.[1]He served as the District of Alaska'sU.S. Attorneyfrom 2001 to 2005.
Education and career
[edit]Burgess was born inSan Francisco,California.[1]He received anAssociate of Artsdegree fromCañada Collegein 1976.[1]He then attended theUniversity of Alaska Fairbankson a basketball scholarship, earning aBachelor of Artsdegree in 1978 and aMaster of Business Administrationdegree in 1982.[2]He received hisJuris DoctorfromNortheastern University School of Lawin 1987.[1]He went into private practice inAnchorage,Alaska,with the law firm then known as Gilmore & Feldman from 1987 to 1989.[3]Burgess served as anAssistant United States Attorneyin the District ofAlaskafrom 1989 to 2001 and then as theUnited States Attorneyuntil 2005.[1]
Federal judicial service
[edit]He was nominated byGeorge W. Bushon July 28, 2005, to the seat on the United States District Court for the District of Alaska vacated byJames Keith Singleton Jr.[1]He was confirmed by theUnited States Senateon December 21, 2005, and received commission on January 23, 2006. He served as Chief Judge from December 31, 2015 to December 31, 2021, the same date he assumedsenior status.[1]
Personal life
[edit]Burgess and his wife, Joanne Grace, reside inAnchorageand have four children.[4][5]
