Vytautas Petrulis(born February 3, 1890, in Katelišės, nearVabalninkas;executed in 1942, nearUchta,RSFSR) was aLithuanianpolitician, one of the main figures in theLithuanian Christian Democratic Party,and an accountant. He is often nicknamed "the father of the Litas" as it was during his term as Minister of Finance that theLithuanian litaswas introduced.[1]

In summer 1918, Petrulis became a member of theCouncil of Lithuania.Later he was actingMinister of Financein the thirdCabinet of Lithuania,Minister of Finance, Trade and Industry in the 7th, 8th, and 9th cabinets, and in 10th cabinet, Minister of Finance. He wasPrime Minister of Lithuaniain the 11th Cabinet, as well as Minister of Finance. He was thespeaker of the Seimasfrom 1925 to 1926.[2]

On July 11, 1940, he was arrested by the Soviets and sent toKaunas Prison.In 1942, he wasexecuted by firing squadfor anti-Soviet activities nearUchta.
