WIXM has aneffective radiated power(ERP) of 20,000watts.While the station is licensed to a community in Vermont and has its studios and offices on Watertower Circle inColchester,itstransmitteris on Beartown Road inBeekmantown, New York,about ten miles north of Plattsburgh.[3]
History
[edit]Early years as WWSR-FM "Stereo 102" & WLFE-FM country format
[edit]The station firstsigned onin April 1970 asWWSR-FM,thesister stationof 1420WWSR.[4]Its format wasadult contemporary musicusing theautomated"Hit Parade" service, calling itselfStereo 102.In the late 1970s, it dropped AC in favor ofcountry music,using thecall lettersWLFE.
Active rock format and call letter change to WIER (2008–2012)
[edit]The station flipped from country music toChristmas musicin November2008,and on December 29, 2008, the station moved toactive rockas Rock 102 "Pure Rock Radio" to go up againstalternative rockstation 99.9WBTZin nearbyPlattsburgh, New York.[5]
In January 2009, the station addedThe Todd and Tyler Radio Empire,asyndicatedtalk show based out ofOmaha, Nebraska,to its morning schedule.
On March 1,2010,WLFE-FM changed its call letters toWIERand rebranded as "102.3 The Wire".[1]
Hot Adult contemporary format (2012–present)
[edit]WIER switched to hot adult contemporary as "Mix 102.3" on March 30,2012.[6]The station's playlist is listed onMediabase[7](where rivalWEZFis listed), but it is not on the add board. The station plays only a few1980s hits,much like its rivalWEZF.On August 13, 2012, the station changed its call sign toWIXM.
