Wesley W. Simina(born September 10, 1961) is a Micronesianpoliticianwho has served as thepresident of the Federated States of Micronesiasince 2023. He served as thegovernor of Chuuk State,one of the four states that constitute theFederated States of Micronesia,from July 2005 to July 2011.[1][2]

Simina was re-elected to a second term as governor of Chuuk in a 2009runoff electionagainstGillian N. Doone,the son of former GovernorGideon Doone.[3]He and Lt. Governor Johnson Elimo were sworn into their second terms on July 2, 2009, in an inauguration ceremony held at the Saramen Chuuk Development Center at Saramen Chuuk High School inWeno,Chuuk. [1]

Simina resigned as governor in July 2011 to become Chuuk's at-largesenatorin the nationalCongress of the Federated States of Micronesia.[4]Chuuk Lt. GovernorJohnson Elimoimmediately became the acting governor of Chuuk upon Simina's resignation.[4]Elimo won a special gubernatorial election on August 24, 2011, to serve out the remainder of Simina's unexpired term.[4]Elimo won the election with 7,945;Alexander Narruhncame in second with 6,913 votes, whileRedley Killionplaced third with 3,692.[4]

Simina was elected as the Speaker of theNineteenth Congress of the Federated States of Micronesiaon May 11, 2015,[5]and on May 11, 2023, he was electedpresident of the Federated States of Micronesiaduring the first regular session of the 23rd Congress.[6]
