Íar mac Dedad

Íar mac Dedad(Íar, son ofDeda mac Sin) was a legendaryKing of Munster.He is the father, or in some sources more distant ancestor, ofEterscél Mór,and grandfather (or great-grandfather) of the famousConaire Mór,bothHigh Kings of Ireland.
Íar may be the eponymous ancestor of theÉrainnof Munster. Both the personal name and tribal name derive from the same root.[1]Among his historical descendants, through the later High KingConaire Cóem,are theDál RiataofUlsterandScotland,and theCorcu Duibne,Múscraige,andCorcu Baiscindof Munster. These were known as theSíl Conairi,one of the principal royal septs of the Érainn.[2]
The brother of Íar wasDáire mac Dedad,eponymous ancestor of theDáirine.He succeeded Íar as king of Munster.[2]
