Theenzyme(R)-limonene synthase(EC 4.2.3.20)catalyzesthe reversiblechemical reaction
- geranyl diphosphate(+)-(4R)-limonene + diphosphate.
Description[edit]
This enzyme belongs to the family oflyases, specifically thosecarbon-oxygenlyases acting on phosphates. Thesystematic nameof this enzyme class isGeranyl-diphosphate diphosphate-lyase [cyclizing, (+)-(4R)-limonene-forming].Other names in common use includeLimonene synthase, andGeranyldiphosphate diphosphate lyase [(+)-(R)-limonene-forming].
The enzyme participates in monoterpenoid biosynthesis and is localized toLeucoplastsof oil gland secretory cells.[1]
