The10th Cruiser Squadron,also known asCruiser Force Bwas a formation ofcruisersof the BritishRoyal Navyfrom 1913 to 1917 and then again from 1940 to 1946.[1][2]

First formation

The squadron was established in July 1913 and allocated to theThird Fleet.[3]In July 1914 it was reassigned to the newGrand Fleet,the squadron was also madeCruiser Force Bin August 1914 but was more famously known as theNorthern Patrol.It remained with the Grand Fleet until December 1917.[4]

The squadron was disbanded from January 1918 to 1937

Second formation

On 22 March 1937 theAdmiraltyannounced the temporary formation of the squadron for the coronation fleet review byKing George VIon 20 April 1937. The squadron was commanded by Rear-AdmiralArthur Dowding.[8]

Third formation

The squadron reformed in September 1940 and attached to theHome Fleetfor the duration of theSecond World Waruntil September 1945.[6]On 27 December 1942, it was engaged at theBattle of the Barents SeaasForce R.On 22 December 1943 the squadron was involved in theBattle of the North Capewhere it was calledForce 2.[9]In October 1946 the squadron was renamed the2nd Cruiser Squadronand assigned to theMediterranean Fleet.[10]
