The1797 Rhode Island gubernatorial electionwas held on 5 April 1797 in order to elect theGovernor of Rhode Island.IncumbentDemocratic-RepublicanGovernorArthur Fennerwon re-election as he ran unopposed.[1]

On election day, 5 April 1797, incumbentDemocratic-RepublicanGovernorArthur Fennerwon re-election as he ran unopposed, thereby retainingDemocratic-Republicancontrol over the office of Governor. Fenner was sworn in for his eight term on 5 May 1797.[2]
