On election day, 4 December 1800, incumbentDemocratic-RepublicanActing GovernorJohn Draytonwas elected by theSouth Carolina General Assembly,thereby gaining Democratic-Republican control over the office of Governor. Drayton was sworn in for a full term on 3 January 1801.[2]
