The1882 Arkansas gubernatorial electionwas held on 4 September 1882, in order to elect theGovernor of Arkansas.Democraticnominee and former member and Speaker of theArkansas House of RepresentativesJames H. BerrydefeatedRepublicannominee W. D. Slack andGreenbacknominee and former representative from Arkansas in theConfederate Congressfrom the2nd DistrictRufus King Garland Jr..[1]

General election[edit]

On election day, 4 September 1882,DemocraticnomineeJames H. Berrywon the election by a margin of 38,297 votes against his foremost opponentRepublicannominee W. D. Slack, thereby retaining Democratic control over the office of Governor. Berry was sworn in as the 14th Governor ofArkansason 13 January 1883.[2]
