The1936 Maine gubernatorial electiontook place on September 14, 1936. IncumbentDemocraticGovernorLouis J. Branndid not seek re-election.RepublicanLewis O. BarrowsdefeatedDemocratic PartycandidateF. Harold Dubordand Republican state legislator and Baptist ministerBenjamin Bubar Sr.,whose sonBen Bubarwas later elected to the state legislature at 21 and later twice served as the Prohibition Party's presidential candidate.[1]
Barrows' victory was the start of a streak of nine consecutive Republican gubernatorial election victories.
