The1940 Limerick Senior Hurling Championshipwas the 46th staging of theLimerick Senior Hurling Championshipsince its establishment by theLimerick County Boardin 1887.
Ahanewere thedefending champions.
Croomwon the championship after a 4–02 to 3–01 defeat of Ahane in the final.[1]It was their fifth championship title overall and their first title since1929.It was Ahane's first defeat in the championship since1932.
