The1994 Maine gubernatorial electiontook place on November 8, 1994 to elect thegovernor of Maine.IncumbentRepublicangovernorJohn McKernanwas term-limited and could not seek re-election to a third consecutive term.IndependentAngus KingdefeatedDemocraticnominee, former governorJoseph Brennan,Republican nomineeSusan Collins,a regional coordinator of theSmall Business Administration,andGreennomineeJonathan Carter,anenvironmentalistactivist. Ed Finks, as awrite-in candidate,received in 1.29% of the vote. This was the first election since1974that Maine elected an independent governor. Both King and Collins now serve together in theUnited States Senatesince 2013.
