The2004–05 Football League Cup(known as theCarling Cupfor sponsorship reasons) was the 45th staging of theFootball League Cup,a knockout competition for England's top 92footballclubs. The competition name reflects a sponsorship deal with lager brandCarling.

The competition began in August 2004 and ended with thefinalon 25 February 2005. TheMillennium StadiuminCardiffhosted the final match, as it had done since 2001, with the newWembley Stadiumstill not complete.

The winners wereChelsea,beatingLiverpoolin the final 3–2 thanks to an own goal fromSteven Gerrard,and goals in extra-time fromDidier DrogbaandMateja Kežmanin extra-time after the match finished 1–1.
