Incumbent DemocraticSenatorCarl Levinwas re-elected in2008with 62.7% of the vote. He retired instead of seeking a seventh term. U.S. RepresentativeGary Petersdefeated former secretary of stateTerri Lynn Landin the general election.
Incumbent RepublicanGovernorRick Snyderwas first elected in2010with 58.1% of the vote.[3]He ran for re-election to a second term and defeated former U.S. RepresentativeMark Schauerin the closest statewide election in 2014.
Incumbent RepublicanSecretary of StateRuth Johnsonwas first elected in2010with 50.7% of the vote. She won re-election to a second term against attorney Godfrey Dillard.
Incumbent RepublicanAttorney GeneralBill Schuettewas first elected in2010with 52.6% of the vote. He won re-election to a second term againstMSUlaw professor Mark Totten.
All seats of theMichigan Legislaturewere up for election. TheSenateelects its members to four year terms, while theHouse of Representativesmembers are elected to two year terms. Republicans retained control of both chambers and made small gains in seats.
