Ceremony

The nominees for the 29th International Emmy Awards were announced byInternational Academy of Television Arts and Sciences,on October 8, 2001, at a press conference atMIPCOMinCannes.^[2]United Kingdomwon four of the six categories that competed at the International Emmys.^[3]TheChannel 4took the Emmy award in the popular arts category for hisSo Graham Nortonseries.ITV'sDirty Tricks,starringMartin Clunes,won best drama, while the arts documentary award went to Channel 4'sThe Miles Davis Story.^[4]

A filmed version of the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical,Jesus Christ Superstar,whose cast featured Rik Mayall, was the winner in the performing arts section. The other two trophies — children and young people, and documentary — went to Canada forCBC’sStreet Centsand theNetherlandsforKRO’sNorth Korea,respectively.^[5]^[6]
