The84th Regiment of Footwas aBritishregiment raised for service inIndiawith theBritish East India Company.
History[edit]
Raised in England in 1758 during theSeven Years' War,the regiment was shipped toMadras,India in 1759.[1]The regiment was among the first British regiments to serve in India. The regiment was soon in action in theBattle of Wandiwashin January 1760.[1]This battle was followed in September by theSiege of Pondicherryand theSiege of Arcotduring theSecond Carnatic War.[1]Sir Eyre Cootewas a commanding officer of the regiment at that time.[2]The regiment went on to fight at theBattle of Buxarin October 1764 during the Bengal War.[1]In 1765 the regiment sailed back to Britain and were disbanded.[1]
