9to5Macis a website covering news and rumors aboutApple Inc.and its products.[1]Founded bySeth Weintraub,the website is the oldest in Weintraub's 9to5 network oftech blogs,[citation needed]which also includes9to5Google,9to5Toys,DroneDJ,andElectrek.[2][3]

As one of manyApple news websites,the site drastically rose in traffic in its earlier years for publishing the first photos of the third-generationiPod Nano,the originaliPod Touch,early images of the firstiPhone,etc.[2]9to5Machas developed and implemented itsaffiliateprogram for freelance writers to earn from advertising banners being shown on their articles' pages.[1]

9to5Macwas founded in 2007 bySeth Weintraubas an Apple news website initially focused onMacsin the enterprise.[2]In June 2016,Mark Gurman,one of the world's most influential Apple reporters, left9to5MacforBloomberg News.He has been writing articles for9to5Macfor seven years.[4][5]Gurman has had major scoops, such as uncovering iSlate, confirming a tablet was coming from Apple back in 2009, while he’s also leaked news aboutSiri,iOS 7,the firstRetina iMacs,and last year’s12-inch MacBookbefore the company’s special events.[6]

In 2012, in a research paper entitledThe Outreach of Digital Libraries: A Globalized Resource Network(Taipei)9to5Macwas ranked as having the highestJaccard indexamong Mac-related websites, includingMacRumors.[7]

Incidents[edit]

In 2018, Guilherme Rambo paid a source around $500 inBitcoinin exchange for leaked data from the company.[8]He wrote an article billed as an "exclusive" look at new features for the then-upcomingiPad Pro.[9]However, this approach contradicts the rules of the9to5Mac.Later9to5Macupdated the story, removing its content and replacing it with a disclaimer: "Update: This post has been removed due to9to5mac'ssourcing policies. "[10]
