Worldwide top-tier tennis tour for men
TheATP Tour(known asATP World Tourbetween January 2009 and December 2018) is the sole worldwide top-tiertennistour for men organized by theAssociation of Tennis Professionalsfounded in 1990 that replaced the earlier dualGrand Prix CircuitandWCT Circuit.The second-tier tour is theATP Challenger Tourand the third-tier is theITF Men's World Tennis Tour.The equivalent women's organisation is theWTA Tour.
ATP Tour tournaments[edit]
The ATP Tour comprisesATP Masters 1000,ATP 500,andATP 250and theUnited Cup.[1]The ATP also oversees theATP Challenger Tour,[2]a level below the ATP Tour, and theATP Champions Tourfor seniors. TheGrand Slamtournaments, theOlympic tennis tournament,theDavis Cup,and the entry-levelITF World Tennis Tourdo not fall under the purview of the ATP, but are overseen by theInternational Tennis Federation(ITF) instead and theInternational Olympic Committee(IOC) for the Olympics. In these events, however, ATP ranking points are awarded, with the exception of the Olympics. Players and doubles teams with the most ranking points (collected during the calendar year) play in the season-endingATP Finals,which, from 2000–2008, was run jointly with the ITF. The top 21-and-under players may compete in the season-endingNext Generation ATP Finalsif they do not qualify for the ATP Finals. The details of the professional tennis tour are:
