Aegle(Ancient Greek:Αἴγλη"brightness" or "dazzling light" ) is the name of several different figures inGreek mythology:[1]
- Aegle, one of the daughters ofAsclepiusbyLampetia,[2]the daughter of theSun,according toHermippus.[3]Her name is said to have derived from "Αἴγλη" ( "Aegle" ), meaning "Brightness," or "Splendor," either from the beauty of the human body when in good health, or from the honor paid to the medical profession.[4]
- Aegle, the most beautiful of theNaiads,[5]daughter ofZeusandNeaera,[6]by whomHeliosbegot theCharites.[7]
- Aegle, one of theHeliades,a sister ofPhaeton,and daughter ofHeliosandClymene.[8]In her grief at the death of her brother she and her sisters were changed intopoplars.
- Aegle, one of theHesperides.[9]
- Aegle, another name ofCoronis,daughter ofPhlegyasand lover ofApollo.[10]
- Aegle, was a daughter ofPanopeus,thePhocianhero. She was said to be one who was beloved byTheseus,and for whom he forsookAriadne.[11][12]
