Alex Chappell(néeCorddry;born October 10, 1988) is an American journalist forMid-Atlantic Sports Network(MASN) covering theWashington Nationals.[1]She also works as a sideline reporter forESPNand forSEC Networkforcollege footballcoverage.

Early life and education

Chappell grew up inBethesda,Maryland.Her father, Phillip Corddry, was a left-handed pitcher for theUniversity of Marylandand spent the1969through1972seasons with theBoston Red Soxorganization.[2]She graduated fromWalt Whitman High Schooland theUniversity of Alabama,and while in college she interned atWJLAinWashington, D.C.[3]

Chappell became a Washington Nationals fan in2005,when the team moved to Washington, D.C., fromMontreal– where they had played as theMontreal Exposfrom1969through2004– and she admired former MASN field reportersAmber TheoharisandKristina Akra(now Kristina Fitzpatrick) duringBaltimore Oriolesand Washington Nationals broadcasts, respectively.

Career

After graduation from the University of Alabama, Chappell worked as a sports reporter for aCBSaffiliate inBirmingham,Alabama.From there she worked briefly as a reporter ofRedskins NationforNBC Sports Washington,as a sports reporter forWHDHinBoston,Massachusetts,and as a sideline reporter forESPNfor College Football. She worked forTBSduring the2019Major League Baseballpostseason, and was the pre- and post-game reporter forBally Sports Floridacovering theTampa Bay Raysduring the2017season.[3]She became MASN's on-field reporter for broadcasts of Washington Nationals games in2019and2020.When MASN dropped the field reporter position from its coverage of Nationals games beginning in2021,the Nationals hired her as a substitute anchor for their pregame and postgame shows.

Personal life

Chappell married Scott Chappell, an attorney, in January 2019.[4]Actors and former Daily Show CorrespondentsRob CorddryandNate Corddryare her cousins.[5]On May 31, 2022, Chappell announced viaInstagramthat she is expecting a baby girl due in November.
