Alexandria Stadium(Arabic:إستاد الأسكندرية) is amulti-purpose stadiumin the Moharram Bey district ofAlexandria,Egypt.It was opened in 1929 byKing Fouad I.[2]It is the oldest stadium inEgyptandAfrica.[3]

After its remodeling and renovations in 2016–2017, Alexandria stadium now has a capacity of 13,660.[4]The stadium hosts theAl-Ittihadfootball team and has been the scene of international tournaments, including the inaugural of the1951 Mediterranean Games.It was a venue for the1986 African Cup of Nationsand the2006 African Cup of Nationseditions, and hosted the Group B matches during the2019 African Cup of Nations.[5]

Architecture

The stadium was designed by Russian architect Vladimir Nicohosov, who was influenced byIslamic architecture.[5]
