Alf Murray(24 December 1914 – 12 March 1999) was anIrishGaelic footballerwho played as a right wing-forward at senior level for theArmagh county team.[1]

Murray joined the team during the1935 championshipand was a regular member of the starting fifteen for the next decade. He failed to win any silverware at senior level, however, he did win anUlstermedal at junior level in 1935.[citation needed]

Murray had a lengthy club career withClann Éireann.[citation needed]

In retirement from playing Murray was involved in the administration of theGAA.He was secretary of theArmagh County Boardand chairman of theUlster Council,before serving aspresident of the GAAfrom 1964 to 1967.[2]

Education[edit]

Murray was awarded a teacher training scholarship toSt Mary's College of Education,Strawberry Hill, London.[3]

Teaching[edit]

He taught for a short time inNewryand Derrymacash before spending 40 years at Tannaghmore Primary School where he was to become Vice Principal and Principal.[3]
