In 2020, McBaine made her directorial debut withBoys State,a documentary revolving around a thousand teenage boys attendingBoys Statealongside Moss, which had its world premiere at the2020 Sundance Film Festival.[5]It was released on August 14, 2020, byApple TV+andA24.[6]In 2023, McBaine directed alongside Moss,The MissionforNational Geographic Documentary Films,revolving aroundJohn Allen Chau.[7]
