Ammouliani(Greek:Αμμουλιανή[amuʎaˈni],Ammoulianí), also known asAmoliani,is an island located in theChalkidikiregional unit,Greece,120 km (75 mi) fromThessaloniki.Administratively it is part of themunicipal unitofStagira-Akanthos.
History[edit]
Until the early 1900s, Ammouliani was a dependency ofVatopedi MonasteryofMount Athos.In 1925, the island was given to the refugees' families who had come from islands ofPropontis(Marmaras Sea), after theAsia Minor Disaster.[2]The population of the island grew quickly and today the island has over 500 residents. It has become a tourist destination, with frequent transport from the mainland.
