Andrzej Chyra(Polish:[ˈandʐɛjˈxɨra],born 27 August 1964) is a Polishactorandtheatre director.He is a member of thePolish Film Academyand theEuropean Film Academy.[1]In 2006, he received thePolish Academy Award for Best Actorfor his performance inFeliks Falk's drama filmThe Collector.
Life and career
[edit]He graduated from high school and in 1987 he graduated from the Acting Theater School inWarsaw.In 1994, he majored at the same university in directing.[2]
He made his film debut in 1993, with the role of Benvollo in the filmOrder of Affection,directed byRadosław Piwowarski.The largest role so far that brought him recognition was as Gerard Nowak in the 1999 filmThe Debt(Dług) byKrzysztof Krauze,for which he was awarded the Best Actor award at thePolish Film FestivalinGdynia.The success of this was continued in 2005 when he received thePolish Academy Award for Best Actorfor his role inKomornik.In 2007, he starred inAndrzej Wajda'sAcademy Award-nominated historical drama filmKatyń.
He was also nominated forPolish Film Awardshis roles in the filmsWe're All Christs(2006),[3]Never Gonna Snow Again(2021) andAll Our Fears(2021).
In 2015, he was awarded theKonrad SwinarskiPrize for directingPaweł Mykietyn's operaCzarodziejska górabased onThomas Mann's novelThe Magic Mountain.[4]In 2019, he received theZbigniew Cybulski Awardfor Lifetime Achievement.[5]
