Angie Millikenis an Australian actress.[1]
Early life
[edit]Milliken was born and raised in the western suburbs ofBrisbane,Queensland, Australia to a musical family. She played the French horn and competed in athletic sprinting events from the age of 7 through 17.[2]
She completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature and Sociology at theUniversity of Queensland,before turning to acting. She was part of an alternative arts and theatre group called The Fluba Troupe.[3]
Milliken subsequently moved to Sydney to study atNational Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA)where she completed a three year Diploma of Acting.[2]
Career
[edit]Milliken first became noticed when she starred in the 1991 made-for-TV movieAct of Necessityfor which she was nominated for anAustralian Film Institute (AFI) Award.[citation needed]
Throughout the 1990s, Milliken starred as Jo Moody in a series of telemovies withRobert Taylor,calledThe Feds,and in 1999 starred inPaperback Hero,as well as guest starring onFarscapeandStingers.In 1992 she was in the filmEight Balland in 1996 she memorably featured inDead Heart.[citation needed]
She regularly performed on stage forSydney Theatre Companyand became a well known face in the Australian film and television industry. In 2001, she won anAFI awardfor her role inMy Brother Jackand then starred in the acclaimedThe Shark Net(2003).[citation needed]
From 2003 to 2005 Milliken starred as Amanda McKay, a lawyer, onMDA,winning anAFI Awardin 2003.[1]
Milliken starred inThe Condemnedin 2007 and has also appeared in an episode ofCSI: Miami.Milliken played Jamie Thompson's mother inThis Isn't Funnyin 2015.[citation needed]
In 2012 Milliken returned to stage acting in Benedict Andrews'Every BreathforBelvoir Street TheatreandThe Effect,a joint project of theSydney Theatre Companyand theQueensland Theatre Company.[1][4]
