Annie Genevard(néeTharin,7 September 1956) is a French politician who has represented the5th constituencyof theDoubsdepartmentin theNational Assemblysince2012.[1]In addition to her parliamentary service, she has been secretary-general ofThe Republicans(LR) under party leadersLaurent Wauquiez(2017–2019) andÉric Ciotti(2023–present).[2]From 4 July 2022 until 11 December 2022, she was thead interimparty leader following the resignation ofChristian Jacob,in her role as first party vice president (French:vice-présidente déléguée), which she had held since 6 July 2021.

A teacher by occupation, Genevard was alsoMayorofMorteaufrom 2002 until 2017.

A native ofAudincourt,Genevard is the daughter ofIrène Tharin,who served in the National Assembly from 2002 to 2007, representing thefourth constituencyofDoubsas a member of theUnion for a Popular Movement,which would be renamedThe Republicansin 2015. She also was the Mayor ofSeloncourtfrom 1993 until 2015.

Genevard has been a member of the National Assembly since the2012 legislative election,when she succeededJean-Marie Binetruy,whom she also succeeded as Mayor ofMorteauwhen he entered the National Assembly. She has since been one of the chamber's six vice presidents under the leadership ofFrançois de Rugy(2017–2018) andRichard Ferrand(since 2018). She also serves von the Committee on Cultural Affairs and Education. In addition to her committee assignments, she is a member of the study group on theHoly See.[3]

In the2016 The Republicans primaryahead of the2017 presidential election,Genevard endorsedFrançois Fillonas the party's candidate forPresident of France.[4]

In the party's2017 leadership election,Genevard endorsedLaurent Wauquiezas party president.[5]Following his election, she was appointed as the party's secretary-general. She left the position in 2019, as newly elected party presidentChristian JacobappointedAurélien Pradiéto succeed her.[6]

At The Republicans' national convention in December 2021, she was part of the 11-member committee which oversaw theparty's selection of its candidatefor the2022 presidential elections.[7]

From July to December 2022, Genevard served as the Republicans’ interim chairwoman after the resignation ofChristian Jacob.[8]She declined to run in the party's leadership election and was succeeded byÉric Ciottiin December.[9]In January 2023, Ciotti appointed her to serve again as the party's secretary-general.[10]
