Anthony Lawlor(born 13 June 1959) is an Irish formerFine Gaelpolitician who served as aSenatorfor theAgricultural Panelfrom 2018 to 2020.[2]He served as aTeachta Dála(TD) for theKildare Northconstituency from 2011 to 2016.

Early life[edit]

A son of Tony andPatsy Lawlor,he was educated atMultyfarnhamAgricultural College,University College DublinandNational University of Ireland, Maynooth.[1]

He was co-opted toKildare County Councilin 1998, following the death of his mother Patsy. He was elected in1999as an Independent Councillor for theNaaslocal electoral area. He did not stand for election in2004.[3]In2009,he was re-elected as a Councillor, this time as a member of Fine Gael.

Politics[edit]

Lawlor was elected as a Fine GaelTDfor theKildare Northconstituency at the2011 general election.[4]

On 11 December 2012, Lawlor introduced a bill in theOireachtasintended to outlaw theclockingof vehicleodometers,[5]which is not currently illegal in Ireland.

He lost his seat at the2016 general election.[4]He subsequently failed to get elected toSeanad Éireannin April 2016.

He was elected to25th Seanadon theAgricultural Panelin a by-election on 27 April 2018.[6]The vacancy was caused by the resignation of SenatorTrevor Ó Clochartaigh.He was an unsuccessful candidate for Kildare North at the2020 general election.He did not contest the2020 Seanad election.
