Anthony Lefroy (Irish politician)

Anthony Lefroy(1800 – 12 January 1890) was an IrishConservative PartyMP in theUnited Kingdom Parliament.

He was born inDublin,the eldest son of politician and juristThomas Langlois Lefroy,was educated atTrinity Collegeand studied law at theKing's Inns(1820) andLincoln's Inn(1822).

He was MP forLongfordfrom 1830 to 1832, and again from 1833 to 1837 (he lost the seat at the1832 general electionand was returned after anelection petition). He returned to the seat in 1842–1847, when he was declared elected after a petition challenging the result of the1841 general election.He was appointedHigh Sheriff of Longfordfor 1849–50. He then represented his father's old seat, theUniversity constituencyofDublin University,from 1858 to 1870. In 1870 he accepted theChiltern Hundredsand left Parliament.

He died at Carrickglass in 1890. He had married the Hon. Jane King, daughter ofRobert King, 1st Viscount Lorton.They had one son, who predeceased him, and two daughters. His estates passed to his brother, Thomas, who himself died the next year.
