Area codes 845 and 329are telephonearea codesin theNorth American Numbering Plan(NANP) for theU.S. stateofNew York.The numbering plan area comprises the mid- and lowerHudson Valley,specificallyOrange,Putnam,Rockland,andUlstercounties, and parts ofColumbia,Delaware,Dutchess,Greene,andSullivancounties.
Area code 845 was created on June 5, 2000, by anarea code splitfrom most of the territory ofarea code 914,which was retained byWestchester County.
Prior to October 2021, area code 845 had telephone numbers assigned for thecentral office code988. In 2020,988was designated nationwide as a dialing code for theNational Suicide Prevention Lifeline,which created a conflict for exchanges that permitseven-digit dialing.This area code was therefore scheduled to transition toten-digit dialingby October 24, 2021.[1]
On May 11, 2022, the North American Numbering Plan Administrator (NANPA) authorized the new area code 329 for an overlay of the 845 area, which had entered service on March 24, 2023.[2]
