Ariphron
Appearance
Ariphron(/ˈærɪfrɒn/;Ancient Greek:Ἀρίφρων) was the name of several people from ancient Greek history:[1]
- Ariphron, the father ofXanthippus,and grandfather ofPericles,both prominentAthenianstatesmen. He was associated with theAlcmaeonidfamily.[2][3]
- Ariphron, the brother ofPericles.[4]
- Ariphron ofSicyon,a Greek poet, and the author of apaeanto health (Ὑγίεια), which has been preserved byAthenaeus.[5]The beginning of the poem is quoted byLucianandMaximus of Tyre.[6][7]It is also printed inBergk'sPoetae Lyrici Graeci.[8]
- Ariphron, anArchon of Athens,reigning in the 9th century BC.
