Ascoseirais a monotypicgenusofseaweedin thebrown algae(class Phaeophyceae).[3][4]The single andtype species,Ascoseira mirabilisSkottsberg, is a large parenchymatous macroalgae, and isendemicto theAntarctic Ocean.[5]Ascoseirais assigned to its ownorder.[3][6]The alga grows insubtidalwaters at depths of from 3 to 15 meters.[7]
